Physical Therapy: Are You Getting the Right Treatment?

Physical therapy is incredibly important for the body after sustaining an injury or recovering from surgery, but also is understanding what you’re doing and why!!

Is your therapist explaining why you’re doing what you’re doing or what you’re going to get out of what they are doing to you? Do you always work with the same physical therapist when going to do your therapy? Does your therapist show you your exercises and stay with you to make sure you’re doing them properly to get the best results? Do you understand your insurance policy and what your responsible portion is and why?

I have seen several patients have long term effects from not receiving proper care after sustaining an injury or having surgery because they don’t know what proper care is! Make sure that wherever you go for any medical treatment that they explain why you are doing what you are doing and what the benefits are for the treatment that they are prescribing for you. Make sure while you are in therapy, they continue to change your protocol every visit so you can get stronger and back to your full lifestyle. Understanding your injury and recovery timeframe is always important, but most important is your mindset. Make sure you are healthy all around, it’s a package deal! Eat healthy, drink lots of water, try to get as much sleep as you can, and complete your recovery until your therapist discharges you.  Don’t be just a number to your provider, make sure you do your research and don’t just go to a facility because that is where your doctor refers you, you have the right to go wherever is going to give you the best results!!!
